Dawid Kubacki wins the qualification in Ruka
David Kubacki (POL) won this year's winter qualifier in Ruka (FIN). The reigning world champion on the normal hill jumped 135,5 m (134,1 point) on the Rukantunturi hill in Ruka and scored a clear victory ahead of Karl Geiger and the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud.
Qualifying wasn't exciting until the very end, jumping first 50 players were just too short, to evoke real emotions. Only the last players on the field were able to make jumps above 120 m.
In addition to the top three, Japanese Yukiya Sato, Piotr Żyła from Poland and the leader of the general classification of the World Cup Markus Eisenbichler, as in Wisła, made some big jumps. Pius Paschke could also confirm his strong form from the opening of the World Cup.
Austria was represented by team B in the qualifications in Ruka, after that, as there were several cases of Covid-19 in the team. Gregor Schlierenzauer, Philipp Aschenwald and two coaches Andreas Widhoelzl and Robert Treitinger tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week, and the rest of the team is now quarantined as well. Contestants, who tested negative, among them Daniel Huber, who was third in Wisła, they want to compete again next weekend in Nizhny Tagil (ros.).
A positive test result was also obtained by the Russian after the weekend in Wisła. All other team members tested negative and are also planning to participate in the World Championships in Nizhny Tagil, if they have more negative tests in the next few days. The same goes for Austrians.
