Hannu Lepisto – Austria's new coach
Star coach idea.
Since Tuesday, the Austrian ski jumping team has been preparing for the new season in Villach under the leadership of the Finnish coach Hannu Lepistö (55).
Andreas Goldberger is missing, who suffers from shoulder pain and will be sidelined for at least one month.
Skispringen.com spoke to a Scandinavian specialist, who, in previous years, had. Matti Nykänenem and Janne Ahonenem. The Finn also celebrated the victory 35 medals at the Olympics and World Championships, and 50 cup victories.
A glance back.
“In the last three years I have followed the developments on the ski jumping scene with attention, although I didn't have any coaching job.
I was a Eurosport commentator, I worked in Lahti on my coaching education. I tried too, for Janne Ahonen to return to the top last season.
I let you notice: coaching is still my life”.
Contact with Austria
“Anton Innauer, Paul Ganzenhuber and I have known each other for years.
Already in the summer, before the Olympics, I was asked, I wouldn't want to be a coach.
I refused, this year I said yes”.
Salt Lake City 2002
“There are many starting points, to explain the poor attitude of the Austrians.
Equipment questions are repeated over and over again, as well as physical preparation. That's weird, that at the Olympics the Austrians were as bad as ever.
But I need to discuss this thoroughly with sports director Innauer”.
Out of season ones 2002/2003
“Achieve a higher level than last year.
Austrians have potential, to win the World Cup individually, and the Nations Cup.
We can be the best in the world. But it's too early, to speculate about places and medals at the World Championships.
In addition, I have invoked my guiding phrase: The coach doesn't set goals, each competitor must draw them for himself.
If it's different, I will not be helpful”.
Val di Fiemme – WM 2003
“For me, it's almost like the World Cup in my hometown. I have many friends in Italy, it will be very interesting for sure”.
Leading the team
“The team is whole.
Heinz Kuttin and Stefan Horngacher should be my second coaches, we'll need a masseur later, serviceman and test jumper.
Only when everything works fine, we can strive for greatness”.
Equipment
“He is very important in our discipline. Ski jumping is a sport, where a lot depends on the equipment.
We have to find a way, that everything works in this sector. We could produce our own suits in Austria, or we could tailor-made for each competitor at Meininger, or we could test Descente/Mizuno equipment.
There are several possibilities”.
Technique
“It is the most important in ski jumping. But when two players have a good one, equal technique, this one wins, which has a greater reflective force. When the breakout will be bad, we cannot achieve much by flying well”.
Andreas Goldberger
“One of the best jumpers in the world. But, to come out of the hole, needs to complete some points: he needs a lot of motivation; will be treated no better and no worse, than others on my team; he has to see and say what he wants; its technical deficiencies must be eliminated.
In any case, Goldi was the best technician in the 1994/95 season”.
Agreement with the ÖSV
“It expires in two years, during my work I will live in Innsbruck. Will I continue to work here?, or not, is an open question.
Two hard winters await me and I'm already adjusting my language”.
Duel with Finland
“In the jumping scene, we're not fighting against a team, but especially against bad jumps. And when we win this duel, the results will come by themselves.”.
