Running in Szczawnica is a weekend running orgy taking place, true to the name, in Szczawnica and the immediate area from 2013 year (initially Hardy Rolling and Wielka Prehyba). Do 2016 the record for this tour - Hardy Rolling - is 23 minutes 40 seconds and wields Kamil Jastrzębski from Adidas Running. It is almost a typical Anglo-Saxon race, where the first half is basically uphill dusting, and the other half is a mighty fugitive.
The start takes place at the Grajcarek stream, right after the start, we run across the footbridge over the same stream. It is a torrent, which according to the regionalization of Poland, constitutes the border between Beskid Sądecki, and Pieninami. After 450 meters, a two-kilometer ascent begins on the ski slope, on which it is merciless, basically you gain height almost linearly. Every now and then it is worth looking sideways or backwards - from Szafranówka there is a beautiful panorama of the Beskid Sądecki and the Pieniny Mountains, also to the Pieniny Mountains on the Slovak side. The most characteristic peak in the panorama is Radziejowa (you can see the lookout tower on it), behind you there is a significant Jarmuta - a mountain of volcanic origin that dominates the Grajcarek valley. The Tatra Mountains can also be seen in good weather (on the leftmost group of Łomnica and Durny). You will also easily recognize the Three Crowns located almost in front of you.
There are two crazy kilometers ahead, where you lose height, which you did last 10-20 minutes. You have to, be very careful on the confluence. after approx. 800 meters, the route takes off from the state border and takes on an even steeper slope. It just flattens out, when you touch the asphalt at the first buildings (ok. 2 km from the top). Then there is only reaching the finish line - approx. 1,2 km on the Pieniny side of Grajcarek, and behind the bridge it is a "sprint" to the finish line on the Nowy Sącz side of the stream.
You don't even need water for this run, at least at competitions. If you are running for training, it is worth taking a small water bottle or a water bottle with you, but remember, that it all depends on personal predispositions and the current weather condition!
