Casimir Claudiusz Górski (ur. 2 brand 1921 in Lviv, zm. 23 house 2006 in Warsaw), an outstanding coach of the Polish national football team, honorary president of the Polish Football Association. He gained widespread popularity and recognition as a coach after the successes of the Polish national team in the years 70. XX century.
W 1944 r. he volunteered for the army and went to the front. In uniform, he reached the capital and stayed there.
After war, from 1945 do 1953 r., he was a footballer of Legia Warszawa (then CWKS Legia). He represented the national colors in the match against Denmark in Copenhagen (0:8) w 1948 year. He had a football field nickname “Sarenka”.
After completing his competitive career, Górski took up training work in a Warsaw club. He was an assistant to coach Wacław Kuchar and Hungarian Janos Steiner. Then he ran Marymont Warsaw on his own, Gwardia Warszawa and Lublinianka.
From 1956 r. he was a coach of the Polish Football Association, dealing with the representation of juniors for two years. In years 1966-1970 worked with the youth team up to years 23, with which he achieved considerable success. The later Olympic medalists came from it (1972) and the World Cup (1974).
One year before the Olympic Games, 1972 r., Kazimierz Górski became the coach of the first Polish national team. He made his debut with a meeting with Switzerland in Lausanne, played 5 house 1971 r. The Poles won then 4:2.
During the Olympic Games in Munich, 1972 r. his team won the most important awards in the history of Polish football - the Olympic gold medal. Two years later, the team led by Górski won third place in the finals of the world championships, which took place in Germany. Two years later, another success came - the silver medal of the Olympic Games in Montreal.
In years 1971-76 Górski's team played 73 official matches, winning 45, 12 by drawing and losing 16.
The next stage in Górski's career was coaching in Greek clubs – Panathinaikosie Athens, Kastorii, Olympiakosie Piraeus (1977-81). 25 years ago he returned to Poland and for two years he was the coach of Legia Warszawa. Then he went to Greece again, he became a trainer in Ethnikos and again in Panathinaikos (1983-86), with which he won championship titles and national cups.
After completing his coaching career and returning to Poland from 1986 r. he sat in the authorities of the Polish Football Association. First, he was an advisor to the president of the union, a w 1987 r. became the vice-president of the Polish Football Association. In years 1991-95 he was the president, and from 3 July 1995 r. he was the honorary president of the Polish Football Association.
W 1996 r. for outstanding services in the field of physical culture, he was awarded by President Aleksander Kwasniewski with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
Górski is the largest figure in the Polish coaching world, the most titled trainer, which started the golden era of Polish football. He achieved very good results, among others. thanks to the great atmosphere in the team. Legendary and happy (1:1) match at Wembley with England w 1973 r. opened the way for Polish footballers to a great career. For many sympathizers, there is a draw in the "lion's cave", as Wembley was called, was an epochal and groundbreaking event.
At German stadiums in 1974 r. Górski's team presented themselves sensational, being the biggest surprise of the tournament. In the match deciding to enter the final, played on a rain-drenched pitch, covered with boggy mud, The Poles lost to the hosts of the tournament 0:1. Then, in the match for the third place, Górski's players won 1:0 with Brazil. Grzegorz Lato became the top scorer of the championship with seven goals.
W 2001 r. Górski was decorated with the highest award of the International Football Federation. He was awarded the FIFA Gold Medal of Merit in Zurich by Joseph Blatter. Before him, this honor had been achieved 40 people – crowned heads, politicians, famous footballers.
And then he also modestly drew attention, that he treats this honor as an expression of recognition for Polish football. He received the "Medal of Merit" from the president of FIFA in the presence of football celebrities – Michel Platini, Johanna Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Eusebio, Hugo SanchezaMore, Bobby Charltona, Zbigniew Bonek, Grzegorz Lato.
In the same year, Kazimierz Górski was also decorated by children – with the medal of. Dr. Henryk Jordan, awarded by the Society of the Friends of Children. The ceremony was then held at the Sports Championship School in Łódź, of which he is the patron. The school named after the most famous Polish football coach was decorated not only with a commemorative plaque with his image, but also a quote from one of the sayings, which it is famous for – “The ball is round, and there are two goals”.
Two years later, the legendary trainer received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk. From 2003 r. Wisła Płock football stadium is named after Kazimierz Górski.
