In 1972 the hill was reconstructed for the first ski flying world championships, so that even greater distances can be achieved. In 1994 was obtained for the first time 200 meters, exactly 203 Finn Toni Nieminen jumped 17 brand 1994.
The longest jump in the history of ski jumping was also performed on Velikanka. Finn Veli-Matti Lindström skoczył 21.3.2003 232,5 metra, but collapsed on landing and this result could not be considered a world record..
At the end of the year 2003 Velikanka has undergone a slight modernization. In addition, the name of this largest ski jumping hill was changed to Letalnica.
