Butterfly style - introduction
Today I would like to introduce you to the butterfly style. Some believe, that it is difficult to control, even impossible, and others handle it without problems. What it depends on? Hard to say, but probably on the person's physical conditions and abilities. Everyone can do something different. One of them comes easily to swimming in the butterfly style, and cooking for the other.
Some history
- It used to be connected to the classical style (teeth), however, it was separated in 1952 due to other body movements and achievable speed.
- After this separation in 1953 style developed. It was all about footwork and coordination. For one cycle of arm movement, there were four leg movements.
Butterfly style, what is it with?
"But dad, you can't do that," says the worried son.
“Everything is possible, it just takes a little practice. Calm down, be patient. The most important thing is this, to combine the movement of the whole body with the movement of the legs.
Maciek jumped into the water and dived under the water, to get used to the temperature of the water. His father stood beside him and explained to him, what to do.
- Well, son, the most important thing is the right body movements - the father showed the right hand movement simulating the butterfly style. - Remember, that we start this movement from the head. Up and down. Later, we try to attach the chest to it, hips, knees and feet. You see, in this style, the division of it is important. Everything has to come together, try it, I will insure you.
Maciek slowly began to submerge his head, then the rest of the body. He looked more like a squirming earthworm than a dolphin, but that's a detail.
"You're doing great," his father cheered. "You started catching.", What is it about. Practice makes perfect. Slow movements don't rush anywhere.
Maciek emerged from the water and gasped for air. He stood firmly on his feet and looked at his father questioningly.
“It was really good for the first time. Now let's make it a little harder. You do the same, just remember, to move each part of the body more and more intensively. Head slowly, chest faster, hips faster, knees tighter and feet vigorously.
Maciek began to follow his father's instructions and slowly covered the distance in butterfly style.
- Remember, to keep your legs close together! Don't hold those stupas like that, your fingers must be stretched out straight – instructed Maciek. "Everything has to run smoothly.". The legs move simultaneously.
Father began to applaud. A smile appeared on Mac's face. He was proud of himself.
you saw, you saw it well done? - Asked excited Mike.
"You're doing so well.". Now I'm going to tell you what the work of the hands should look like. They must be drawn forward as if you were sailing with an arrow. We push off strongly with both hands at the same time until the moment, until we straighten them out behind us. Then the hands emerge from the water and return to the starting position. You understand?
- Wait, I'll see soon, replied Mike.
He started swimming straight and moving only his arms. He moved forward slowly. After a while he felt, that he was running out of air and surfaced.
- You did well, it should look a bit like circling your arms forward with both hands. Now let's take a breath. It is taken every two cycles. When we swim with a dolphin, we emerge in each cycle, we take in air and when the hands go under the water, circulating, the head also hides.
Maciek's father entered the water and showed his son how to swim professionally in the butterfly style.
- Head, Chest, hips, knees and feet began to move more and more intensely. At the same time, the hands began the push-off phase.
- When the hands are at the surface of the water, we put our heads up and take a breath.
- When the hands are taken out of the water, the whole body moves again.
- Back to the first point. As we can see, one cycle of hands is followed by two cycles of leg movement.
Feel free to comment, I hope, that you liked the description on the example of Maciek and his dad going to the swimming pool.
