Interview with Stephan Hocke.
After the victory in Engelberg, the teenager is already a star
in the ski environment. Stephan Hocke also during 50. The 4-Hills-Tournament wants to do its best. In an interview, he talks about his wishes, achievements and expectations.
It was a dream start for you: place among the world leaders and a victory in Engelberg. And all this in your first World Cup season. Are you already aware of this, what have you achieved?
I can not believe it, really. I'm getting to it, I'm thinking. It wasn't time for that yet.
You hear the opinions of professionals, that your great achievements have come, thanks to flawless jumps. Where do you see the reserve?
I can probably be even better in the take-off and approach to the threshold. I still lose speed.
So you're a strong rebound type?
It cannot be called that. However, several facts speak for it, but the technique is not so good yet. I'm not so strong yet, like it was best.
How about your flight??
Flight is my forte. I can pull a jump if I can see, I have the conditions.
How exactly do you analyze your jumps?
I have a pretty good idea of my movement and can correct my jumps that way. When, for example, in-flight changes are necessary, I can easily carry them out.
The day after the victory in Engelberg you took 22. place. It's after your great results, probably not the best result. How did you pick it up?
When I am satisfied with my jump and my technique, place 22. is great. But when I mess up the jump, then of course such an achievement is not right.
You show a decidedly friendly nature. You can do it properly, really get angry?
Naturally, I get angry too. However, it does not show it externally. It's not in my nature.
How happy are you with the good results. You jump for joy?
I'm happy inside. He doesn't really show it on the outside.
How did the parents react to the results?. What did they say?
They enjoyed. My father, probably more than me. super, perfect result, he said. But great enthusiasm, he didn't show either.
The Hocke family looks at things soberly?
Yes you can say.
How friends reacted?
Mostly they texted. They enjoyed with me.
They feel your absence from school?
Not necessarily at school. More in the evenings.
How did you celebrate the victory?
In Engelberg, the ceremony was brief, because the next day there were other competitions on the program. When the next day there was some free time, we left for home and i was able to be among my friends.
The last few days must have seriously credited your account. Have you counted, how much did you earn.
Nope. Somehow I still don't know.
You have a feeling, that you have become rich?
NO. Now I only have a little more money, than before.
What would you like to buy??
Nothing at this point. I put everything on account.
We'll see next year.
You have a special relationship with money?
NO. It does make it easier though, but that's not important to me. Especially, that I still live with my parents.
What was the Hocke family's Christmas like??
24, early morning, strength training was included. After that, we were left alone.
What was on your table?
There's always a duck. I hope, it was a flying duck.
What did you get for Christmas?
I wished for a new watch. My old one broke.
You bought something for the occasion?
My sister and I have a joint account. My parents got a gift, which my sister bought. I didn't have enough time.
Let's get back to the sport: Many players complain about the equipment. What does it look like for you?
Very good. I am absolutely happy with what I have. The suit fits well and the skis go well. Only in wet conditions, not quite optimal yet.
50. Four Hills Tournament. This is the premiere for you?
So.
You've never had a taste of being in the national team before?
NO. I was never allowed. I was too weak !
What is your prescription for getting rid of stress?
It's best to go to sleep or divert your attention elsewhere. For example, watch TV. He relaxes listening to music from my MP-Player and playing on the Playstation. That has to be enough.
What are you playing on Playstation?
From time to time in “Tony Hawk Skatebording 3”.
How do you assess the overall situation in the world's top??
The season has been going on for so long, much has already been clarified. New ones have appeared, like Simon Amann and Alan Alborn. Overall my impression, That “platoon” is getting bigger. When others have a bit more luck and a good wind, they can jump far.
What do you think?
I think, that's good. Everything gets boring, when only one wins.
How do you receive fans at competitions?
I like all this stuff, but I'm still surprised when someone wants my autograph.
You have become a media star.
I'm not really the type, who likes it. I prefer peace, than the noise around me.
It annoys you, when, in addition to sports questions, more personal questions are asked?
I guess, that's a bit silly. They are not sports questions, and the answers are rather my private matter.
Is your privacy particularly important to you?, worthy of protection?
It is important for me, not to reveal everything.
Has your relationship with roommate Martin Schmitt changed because of your results??
NO! No way. I get along great with Martin and I hope so, that he is with me too.
When Martin had to march with 48. you were able to lift his spirits by heading home?
It's not a rule, that we only talk to Martin Schmitt about jumping. He has a lot of experience and has already achieved a lot. On how, better than me to rebuild again.
What does it all look like inside your team. How do your colleagues see you??
I was accepted.
But someone has already asked you, how are you successful?
I still wonder how I can be so bad in training and so good in competition.
Aren't you learning less because of all this??
Every now and then I sit down and cram math. I always have something to learn. When I'm at home sometimes I have to catch up, but I don't plan on doing it until spring.
